For Fairholz, I photographed a loft penthouse \u2013 natural wood floors beneath an open timber roof structure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Floor photography always raises the same question: how do you show a surface you are standing on? Too flat, and you only see stripes. Too steep, and the space is lost. That's why I mostly photographed so that the floorboards run into the depth and the eye follows them \u2013 across the dining area, to the steel staircase, up to the gallery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The roof structure helps: the exposed beams above and the floorboards below are made of the same material and frame the space from two sides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Photographed in daylight \u2013 wood needs soft light, otherwise the grain becomes harsh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
