For Planbox interior design, I photographed the De Michele restaurant in Vöcklabruck – an Italian restaurant that takes its theme seriously without becoming decorative.
The concept works with a few clear means: yellow as a continuous colour on benches and chairs, wood on ceilings, slats and counter, terrazzo on the tables. Plus a mural of Diego Maradona on textured plaster and a ceiling decoration of dried flowers on a black metal grid – two eye-catchers that carry the whole room.
Photographing restaurants means showing the space before the guests arrive – and still creating the feeling that someone is about to walk in. That's why the focus is on the warm light of the pendant lamps and on details like the wood-fired oven behind the counter.
