For Esterhazy, I photographed Forchtenstein Castle in Burgenland – a fortress on a wooded ridge, visible far across the land.
The series approaches the castle in three steps: from the open meadow slope, where it appears between groups of trees; from below, where the massive bastion wall carries the white building; and from a distance that shows why this spot was chosen – a free-standing cone above the forest.
Photographed in summer in low evening light that sets the white façade against the dark forest and the deep blue sky. No interiors, no details – this was all about the building's presence in the landscape.
