For Esterhazy Betriebe, I photographed several historic sites in Burgenland – Esterházy Palace in Eisenstadt, the Haydn Hall and the treasury at Forchtenstein Castle.
Historic buildings make different demands than new builds. You can't rearrange anything, clear anything out or add extra light where it doesn't belong. You work with what is there – and with the daylight falling through windows that have been in the same place for centuries.
The Haydn Hall and the treasury with its original Baroque cabinets of curiosities are the most demanding rooms: dark wood, gold, great heights and very uneven light.
