For Gahleitner Architekten, I photographed Hotel Gierer in Wasserburg on Lake Constance – a house that combines culinary tradition with contemporary interior design.
In the restaurant, a curved ceiling of timber slats spans quilted velvet banquettes in shades of green and mint. Round seating niches with illuminated domed ceilings, a fireplace behind glass and large-format animal portraits create retreats with a character of their own.
Beneath the historic tiled roof, a gallery restaurant opens up, with cloud-like wire-mesh lights floating above it. The breakfast buffet with its solid wood table and natural stone, along with details such as brass wall lights and green-glazed tiles in the washroom, round off the series.
I have a feel for design and light. That's why I photographed with daylight and the existing lighting mood – the way guests experience the rooms.
